Records penaining to 235 kiddings (autumn ‘96) of Sirohi and Kutchi goat breeds, sired by 14 sires of both breeds, were used for the present study. Overall least squares mean for birth weight was 2.95±0.03 kg. Kutchi kids were slightly heavier (3.00±0.04 kg) than Sirohi kids (2.88±0.04 kg) at birth, but statistically the breed effect was non-significant. In general, birth weight of males was significantly (P>0.01) more (3.08±0.04 kg) than females (2.81±0.04 kg). Kids born single were significantly (P>0.01) heavier (3.22±0.02 kg) than twins (2.65±0.07 kg). Heritability value of birth weight was medium (0.167±0.155). The regression of birth weight of kids on dams’ weight was highly significant (P>0.01) and its value was 0.03±0.01 kg.
