Information needs of commercial goat farmers

Abstract

Based on the information needs of commercial goat farmers, four categories of aspirations were made, namely, Nascent Aspiration (NA) for general information on goats (12.88%), Information Source Specific Aspiration (ISSA) especially for extension literatures (12.95%), Information Specific Aspiration (ISA) for specific information (23.60%) and highly Specialized Aspiration (HSA) on specialized subjects (50.23%). Among-the ISA majority demanded for project report (25.77%). This was followed by information on the sources to procure goats (10.42%), Government programmes on goats (09.43%) and marketing of goats (02.11%). Among the HSA category majority demanded the information on Genetics and Breeding (42.42%). This was followed by Shelter Management and Physiology (23.14%), Feed and Nutrition (21.62%), Health Management (10.74%), and Products Technology (02.06%). HSA was further classified to develop a training programme on commercial goat farming.
