Abstract

The study aimed to standardize the procedure for the extraction of genomic DNA from blood collected and transported on FTATM cards by using a commercial blood DNA kit. Genomic DNA extracted from blood collected on FTATM card was sufficient in concentration and quality for FecB genotyping of sheep. The results of FecB genotyping were comparable to those obtained from genomic DNA extracted from blood collected and transported on FTATM cards and whole blood cells using a blood DNA kit. It can be concluded that FTATM card can be a convenient and reliable medium of blood sample collection, storage and transportation to diagnostic laboratories without a cold chain.
