Abstract

A study was conducted to assess the mRNA sequence variation in cytokine genes of Malpura sheep resistant to Haemonchus contortus. Ribonucleic acids (RNA) were isolated from blood samples (n=3) and complementary DNA was synthesized. Ovine genes namely interferon-α (IFN-α), Interferon-γ (INF- γ), Interleukin-1β (IL-1β) and Interleukin-10 (IL-10) were amplified, cloned and sequencd in silico. One silent point mutation (A/G) in reading frame was detected in IFN-γ gene of Malpura sheep resistant to H. contortus. Looking into significance of interferon-γ gene in H. contortus resistance of sheep, further investigations are warranted with larger dataset.
