Cefpirome, a fourth-generation cephalosporin, exhibits potent activity against resistant bacteria and demonstrates excellent penetration into cerebrospinal fluid. This study investigated the pharmacokinetics, dosage and safety of cefpirome following single intramuscular administration in goats @ 10 mg/kg of body weight. Pharmacokinetic analysis revealed rapid drug absorption, extensive distribution and prolonged elimination. Plasma cefpirome concentrations attained a peak at 45 min (22.2±1.14 μg/ml) and remained effective for 16 h. The recommended dosage for intramuscular administration was found to be 13.4 mg/kg body weight at 16 h interval to maintain the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of 0.25 μg/ml. Safety evaluations over five days of repeated administration indicated good tolerance without significant hepatic or renal effects. These findings support the safe and effective use of cefpirome in goats.
