Abstract

Preparation and preservation of the skeletons enhance the quality of teaching in veterinary anatomy education. This study was aimed to prepare goat skeletons using rapid, economical, and efficient osteotechnic method. Four slaughtered goats were collected from the slaughterhouses near Rampura Phul, Punjab. Deskinned goat specimens were macerated using the hot water maceration technique to remove the flesh from the bones. After cooling, tap water was used to clean the bones. Clean bones were dipped in a 10% bleaching solution for 2 h and washed in tap water. The bones were sun-dried and varnished to enhance their shine and durability. The processed bones were categorized region-wise and articulated to create the goat skeleton. The articulated bones were coloured with synthetic enamel paint and appropriately labeled for demonstration. This study revealed that the present skeleton preparation technique requires minimum cost, time, and labour for preparing goat skeletons.
