Abstract

A case of atresia ani (Imperforate anus) with congenital rectovesical fistula in a male (2 days old) lamb with a history of bloat and straining but not able to void faeces was presented to Teaching Veterinary Complex, DUVASU, Mathura (Uttar Pradesh). The lamb died without any surgical intervention. The external appearance of the body was normal except for the absence of anal opening. To find out the anatomical defect and its relevance to death, the postmortem examination was performed and examined abdominal and pelvic organs. The small intestine was empty while large intestine was distended with watery fluid. The end segment of the rectum was blunt and completely closed. There was a connection of the urinary bladder to the rectum (rectovesical fistula). Accurate diagnosis both by clinical and physical examination and timely surgical intervention are required to save the lives of lambs.
