Abstract

Thirty does of Kutchi breed of goats wore divided into 3 uniform groups on 105th day of pregnancy and maintained under intensive, semi-intensive and extensive systems of feeding management upto the day of kidding and then upto 150th day of lactation. The does weighing 34.9±0.93, 38.3±0.86 and 36.1±1.l5 kg on 105th day of pregnancy reached at 41.8±1.69, 46.6±1.88 and 42.3±1.45 kg on the day of kidding under intensive, semi-intensive and extensive systems respectively. The does weighing 36.3±1.89, 41.6±1.82 and 38.3±1.46 kg soon after kidding reached at 38.2±1.68, 38.8±0.97 and 36.6±1.09 kg under the three respective systems on 150th day of lactation. The does maintained under intensive, semi-intensive and extensive systems produced a total of 90.3±7.11, 1l0.7±9.61 and 77.4±8.86 kg of milk respectively during first 150 days of lactation. The pre-weaning growth rate was 103.3±3.49, 113.3±9.42 and 105.6±5.22 g/h/d in male kids and 100.0±8.15, 103.3±0.00 and 94.4±4.22 g/h/d in female kids born to does under the three respective systems. It was concluded that does maintained under semi-intensive system performed significantly better than those under intensive and extensive system in respect of liveweight gains and milk production.
