Along with agriculture, weaving is an equally important occupation of the poople of northern Karnataka. It provides employment to many families. Woollen blanket weaving is practiced in nearly all the homes of dry and transition zone of Karnataka – both for self consumption and commercial purpose. The major sheep breed reared in this area is Deccani which produced wool which is suitable for weaving the blanket.
