Economics of sheep rearing under farmer's management on Research Farm was assessed for two consecutive years. The cost of feed, labour, treatment and interest on seed money in first and second year were Rs. 193.13 and 198.05, 120.00 and 160.30, 24.48 and 29.32 and 51.95 and 53.45/sheep, respectively. Similarly total receipt through sale of lamb, wool and manure were Rs. 314.81 and 240.00, 52.92 and 35.20 and 45.00 and 42.04, respectively in first and second year. Net return in first year was Rs. 41.60 per sheep while in second year farmer incurred loss of Rs. 60.24/sheep. However, farmer was provided free grazing land, treatment and animals so that net return to him in first and second year was Rs. 399.00 and Rs. 308.00/sheep, respectively. It is thus concluded that economic return per sheep declined with deterioration of pasture condition in second year and under such situation crossbreds were at greater disadvantage.
