Goat farmers perception of the demerits and merits from middlemen in the marketing of goats

Abstract

A study was conducted with 36 landless, 34 marginal, 20 small and 15 medium - large (total 105) randomly selected goat farmers of 8 purposively selected villages under Goat Production Technology Transfer Area of the Farah block of Mathura District, Uttar Pradesh. Middle men in the Marketing of goats work as link between the producers and consumers. They stand on their merits and demerits which were explored in this study. Demerits caused from middlemen in the marketing of goats were observed by the goat farmers as less profit, creation of hindrances, consumption of more time, quarrelling and cheating in the marketing etc. The merits from the middlemen as observed by the goat farmers were getting help in selling and purchasing of goats at the farmer's house, saving of labour and time, selling of goats at suitable price and sick animals at appropriate cost.
