Lamb mortality in a high altitude lamb production system involving 11871 lambs has been analysed and presented. The overall annual mortality during a period of 23 years ranged from 2.32 to 14.21 per cent. Pre-weaning mortality (0–90 days) accounted for 48.67 per cent of the total lamb deaths and 51.33 per cent of the lamb mortality has occurred during the post weaning period. The first three days of birth in case of lambs and more than six years of age in adults were identified as the risk period with respect to mortality. With respect to season 42.4% of the deaths have been recorded in summer. Respiratory and gastrointestinal disorders were the dominant causes of mortality in all the seasons, accounting for 31.40 and 33.40 per cent of the total deaths.
