50% (v/v) ethanolic extracts of 75 available plant (in 1:5 ratio w/v) of 60 plants were assayed for their antibacterial activity against the test pathogen Salmonella typhosa by Inhibition zone technique. The leaf extracts of Helianthus annum Linn. showed maximum activity forming an inhibition zone of 30 mm diameter in our experimentation. Other samples showed less or no inhibition zones. The results indicate that the leaves of Helianthus annum Linn, can be exploited as a good source of innocuous bactericide.
