In estimating the parameters of a population if one can sacrifice the property of unbiasedness, better estimators in view of minimum mean squared error(MMSE) can be obtained. The present investigation brings out such estimators T&T* for the mean of a stratified population, employing aprior information, namely the co-efficient of variation. The procedure adopted is based on that of Searle. D.T (1964). Relative- efficiencies of T & T* over where is the conventional unbiased estimator of are calculated. It is found that T is superior to always, whereas T* is conditionally superior to . Larger gains are observed in efficiencies for small sample sizes.
