Abstract

The analysis of means is a technique which is used for the graphical analysis of the means resulting from a designed experiment. In many situations the error standard deviation can be estimated using the range of the treatment subgroups. When the number of observations in each treatment is constant, the calculation of the decision limits can be simplified to multiplication of the average range by a factor that depends on the subgroup size and number of subgroups being considered. These factors are calculated and tabulated.
