Computational and Experimental Spectroscopic Study of Coumarin 440

Abstract

This work deals with theoretical and experimental investigation of the spectrum of coumarin 440 (C-440) in silica gel glass as well as in some polar and non-polar liquid solvents in 190–800 nm wavelength region. The electronic absorption spectrum of C-440 in silica gel glass is compared with spectrum of coumarin and its parent molecule anthracene. In order to interpret the experimental spectrum of C-440 molecule, we have used Zero Intermediate Neglect Differential Overlap (ZINDO/S-CI).
