Abstract

The investigation is done to study the effect of antibacterial activity of pure and polypyrrole-papain composite, (in different concentration) against certain pathogens. The samples were tested against gram positive bacteria, Staphylococcus aureus and gram negative bacteria like Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae and Salmonella typhi. The concentration of papain in polypyrrole was varied at the time of polymerisation. The result confirms antibacterial activity for lower concentration of papain in pyrrole. The FTIR and SEM of papain-polypyrrole composite confirms presence of papain in the final product. This study demonstrates for the first time that polypyrrole composite with enzyme papain has antibacterial effect.
