Abstract

Rigid building systems having irregularities are usual lead to unstable and vulnerable structure require need proper attention. To avoid this both architectural and structural designers must work together for designing irregularity such as soft storey with floating columns in a structure. Here, the study includes total of 15 model out of which 6 model carries single factor & 9 model carries combined factor responsible for soft storey irregularity is analyzed using RSA method by ETABS. The first Phase of study carries 6 models i.e., soft storey due to increment in length of column in which the amount of reduction or the extent to which it has been dropped along with responses behavior of such building has been evaluated, as well as whether there is torsional irregularity as a result of such variation or alterations. In second phase 9 model is studied in which combination of factors responsible for stiffness irregularity i.e., increased length in vertical element & discontinuation of columns at different location is investigated & validated for both torsional and stiffness irregularity in a symmetric floor plan. However, from 1st phase is been found that there is no major change in the response. This implies that stiffness irregularity is independent of location of stiffness but depends on magnitude of stiffness. In some cases of 2nd phase, due to symmetric building soft storey coefficient exhibits below the criteria in the direction parallel to larger floor dimension.
