Technical Analysis and Mathematical Formulations of Infrared Signatures for Performance Optimization of Aircraft and Gas Turbine Systems have been carried out in detail. This paper aims to give Introduction to the evolving topic of Infrared Signatures for applications in Aircraft and Gas Turbine systems. In addition, some Mathematical Modeling of the Infrared Signatures for Target identification has been given. The recently concept of IR solid angle, which is aircraft’s IR-visibility, and is the basis for general criterion for aircraft lock-on against IR-guided missiles has been explained. The Techniques for the IR Signature Reduction have been highlighted by giving their utility in each case. The paper should give some insight for the researchers interested in doing work in the field of Infrared Signatures, and may be useful to the persons engaged in the Aeronautics and Aerospace Engineering.
