Abstract

In this paper, an attempt has been made to study piezoelectric properties of calcium modified Lead Zirconate Titanate (PCZT) ceramic. For this, PZT was prepared by the conventional oxide route. The samples of Calcium modified PZT i.e., PCZT were used in this study. Results show that although the d33 values decrease steadily with the increase of Ca in the ceramic, the piezo figure of merit which is the parameter looked for when designing a sonar system, shows a peak at 6% Ca, implying that composition to be best suited for transducer application, this is due to the fall in ε accompanied by a fall in the numerical value of d31.
