This paper presents a microstrip fed monopole antenna which consists of a square patch with V slot and truncated ground plane, for ultra wide band application. The proposed antenna is designed to operate in frequency range 3.1 to 10 GHz for S11<10db. Good returnloss and radiation pattern characteristic are obtained in frequency of interest. FEM based simulator Ansoft HFSS is used for simulation.
