The study on cobalt selenide has been carried out by x-ray powder diffraction, electron paramagnetic resonance, M-H curve and photoluminescence studies. The x-ray powder diffraction has confirmed the orthorhombic structure of Cobalt selenide. The electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy on cobalt selenide has shown that the cobalt is possessing ½ spin and it exhibits the tetrahedral coordination Co(II) ions with resonance centred at g=2.11. The M-H curve confirms soft ferroelectric nature of cobalt selenide. The room temperature photoluminescence at excitation wavelength of 384nm exhibits one violet emission at 419.5nm and other strong blue emission at 431.5 nm due to native point defects and Cobalt vacancy related defects.
