Abstract

This paper deals with the assessment of lubrication regime while a cylindrical roller bearing operates with cage and roller slip. A test rig is developed to measure the cage and roller slip and also to simulate the required rate of controlled slip to measure the frictional forces. The running speeds of bearing elements like inner race, cage and roller are measured at various load-speed conditions and the corresponding friction force between contact pairs are obtained. The experimental results are compared with the existing theoretical findings and the lubrication regime at which the cage and roller starts to slip is obtained. The range of cage and roller slip of the test bearing is also assessed.
