A mosaic disease was observed in Rangpur lime cultivars of citrus at experimental field of Citrus in Tirupati. Bacilliform virus particles were found associated with the disease under electron microscopy. The virus is currently designated as Citrus yellow mosaic virus (CYMV). It is a double stranded DNA virus grouped under badnavirus of Caulimoviridae. We have cloned and sequenced intergenic region and part of ORF III of viral genome. The sequence analysis showed that it has high homology in ORF III with the sequence of an Indian isolate of CYMV associated with sweet orange cultivar of citrus but there was variability in intergenic region. The intergenic region contained putative transcriptional elements as found in other badnaviruses. The relationship of Rangpur isolate of CYMV with other badnaviruses has been discussed.
