A new virus complex in sorghum was observed in Millet Breeding Station, Tamil Nadu Agriculture University, Coimbatore during summer, 2002 kharif and rabi of 2003. Studies were conducted to identify the viruses involved in virus disease complex. Based on the transmission and ELISA studies it was found that Maize Stripe virus was found to be associated with the complex. This vgirus was transmitted bnyplant hopper Perigranus maidis and the presence of virus after insect transmission in the inoculated plants was confirmed by DAC indirect ELISA with Maize Stripe Virus polyclonal antiserum. It was further observed that the hopper alone could transmit the virus and not the aphid (Aphis maidis). The presence of other viruses involved in the complex is under progress.
