Abstract

Micronutrient application as IPM component was foundto trigger resistance in French-bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) cv. Cantender against development of chlorotic mottle (Gemini virus) disease tested in ‘Rabi and Kharif’ seasons. Observations in the form of disease tolerance limit, stress susceptibility index and geometrical mean productivity revealed significant effect of zinc, ferrous sulphate and sulphur in comparison to insecticidal treatment in pot culture and micro-plot studies. The effect was more pronounced in ‘Rabi’ season than Kharif season crop. The disease tolerance limit was found to be higher in French-bean plants after application of zinc sulphate (46, Kharif; 41 Rabi) followed by ferrous sulphate (65 and 56) as compared to non treated and insecticide treated infected plants. The effect of micronutrients treatment (soil application) started from very beginning of growth phase as evidenced from reduction in stress (disease) susceptibility index both in ‘Rabi and Kharif’ season crop. With regards to insecticidal treatment for vector control, the spray application of oxydemeton methyl (metasystox) was found to be superior (2.41 and 2.39) to carbofuran soil application (2.05 and 2.49).
