Abstract

Mungbean [Vigna radiata (L.) Wilczek] and urdbean [V. mungo (L.) Hepper] crops suffer from the infection of Mungbean yellow mosaic virus, a vector borne virus. The disease is characterized by severe yellowing of the leaves. Keeping in view the seriousness of the disease, four doses of three botanicals were tested against yellow mosaic disease under natural field conditions. Experiments were conducted in R.B.D. with three replications and 13 treatment combinations. Maximum reduction in disease incidence was recorded are 66.70 and 63.65% on mungbean and urdbean, respectively, by eight sprays of Clerodendrum aculeatum. Whereas, eight sprays of Boerhaavia diffusa (root extract) or Azadirachta indica (leaf extract) could reduce the incidence of yellow mosaic disease by 60.25, 58.20% and 42.42 and 42.92%, respectively. Maximum plant height (70.90, 56.20 cm), primary branches (6.36, per plant), secondary branches (13.56, 10.68 perplant), nodules (27.48, 37.69 per plant), pods (17.25, 22.85 per plant), seed yield (4.43, 3.89 g per plant) were recorded in eight sprays with C. aculeatum leaf extract followed by eight sprays with B. diffusa root extract. On the other hands maximum disease incidence (80.85% and 73.56%) with minimum plant height, primary and secondary branches, nodules, pods and seed yield were recorded in untreated (control) plots in both mungbean and Urdbean crops.
