Abstract

Field experiments were conducted during 2004–05 crop season to study the effect of integration of physical barrier with biopesticides against the whitefly vector for the management of Tomato leaf curl virus (TLCV). White nylon net of 40-mesh size was used as physical barrier against whitefly in the nursery bed and neem based formulations viz., Nimbicidine and Bioneem as biopesticides were used in the main field. The seedlings raised in the nursery bed covered with nylon net showed no incidence of TLCV disease as against 8.0 per cent incidence in the uncovered nursery bed. In the main field, the seedlings raised under nylon net covering in the nursery bed followed by two sprayings of Nimbicidine @ 2.0 per cent at 20 and 35 days after transplanting (DAT) showed no TLCV disease incidence (0.00%) and highest yield (322.22 q/ha). Seedlings raised under covered condition along with spraying of Bioneem @ 2.0 per cent at 20 and 35 DAT also showed low disease incidence (5.33%) and a high yield of tomato (318.89 q/ha). Whereas in untreated control (no covering of the seedling in the nursery bed plus no spraying in the main field) recorded highest TLCV disease incidence of 89.33 per cent with a corresponding low yield of 98.89 q/ha.
