Bhendi yellow vein mosaic virus (BYVMV) is a monopartite begomovirus associated with a satellite DNA b. Expression pattern of Green Fluorescent Protein gene (gfp) under the complementary sense (C1) and virion sense (V1) promoters found in DNA A and the βC1 promoter found in DNA β were investigated in Nicotiana benthamiana. Expression of gfp under the control of CaMV 35S was taken as a control and for comparison of its expression under the above promoters. Results show that the βC1 promoter is stronger than CaMV 35S promoter and expression levels of GFP in the transgenic plants indicate that BYVMV C1 and βC1 promoters are active in leaves, stems and roots. The BYVMV V1 promoter activity was very much less than that of the CaMV 35S promoter. Agroinfection of V1GFP transgenic plants with DNA A or with DNA A and DNA β together enhanced the GFP expression.
