Five major viruses affecting banana cultivation are Banana bunchy top virus (BBTV), Banana bract mosaic virus (BBMV), Banana streak virus (BSV), Cucumber mosaic virus (CMV) and Abaca mosaic potyvirus (AMBV). Among the virus diseases, BSV has become a major threat to an important commercial group of banana Mysore (AAB). Two Banana (Var. Poovan) fields in TNAU were selected. Thirty banana plants were randomly tagged. Symptom expression was observed from October 1998 to October 2000. Weather parameters viz., maximum temperature, minimum temperature, relative humidity and rainfall were recorded for the above period. Symptom expression was maximum (grade 5) during November – January months when the temperature was low (27-3-19°C) and the symptom expression was least (0–1 grade) during the month of May due to higher temperature (25.4–35.2°C). Details of this study will be presented.
