Hepatitis C virus (HCV) is a major cause of chronic hepatitis, liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma worldwide. Unfortunately, neither a vaccine nor effective therapy is available. Efforts are now directed towards the development of an effective vaccine beside chemotherapy. The keynote address briefly summarized the structure, genotypes and pathobiology of HCV. Further vaccine candidates and promising approaches such as DNA Vaccines, Recombinant viral or bacterial vaccines, HCV like particles based vaccines, peptide based vaccines are also highlighted.
