Abstract

Rice necrosis mosaic virus infection induced improvement in yield attributing characters and yield in jute cultivars of both diploid and tetraploid nature without any recognisable virus symptoms in them. Upon inoculation with virus (obtained from leaves of rice plants infected with rice necrosis mosaic virus but not with the sap from leaves of healthy rice plants), JRO-3690 (amongst diploids) showed highest growth in plant height, stem base diameter, total green weight with and without leaves and yield (both fibre and stick) than others whereas amongst tetraploids, JRO-2020 showed highest growth in all the above stated parameters.
