Papaya (Carica papaya L.), a dicotydonous belonging to family Caricaceae, is a delicious fruit crop. It is rich in vitamin A, B, B1, B12, C, and D. It also contains pectin and alkaloids such as carpaine with commercial value. It is grown throughout the tropical and subtropical countries of the world. India is the second largest producer of papaya fruits. Although, the total area under cultivation has recorded a regular increase in the recent past but fruit production has not shown corresponding increase. Low productivity of papaya is mainly due to the losses caused by various biotic stresses including viral diseases. Among viral diseases papaya ring spot is a major diseases which cause heavy losses in yield and quality of fruits. So far no feasible measures are available to control this disease. Therefore, attempts were made to manage the disease in the field conditions using antiviral agents of plant origin along with milk protein. Experiment was conducted under Randomized Block Design (Factorial) with four treatments and five varieties at Horticulture Research Farm, N. D. University of Agriculture and Technology, Kumarganj, Faizabad during 2004–05 and 2005–06. The most effective treatments found was ten sprays with Boerhaavia diffusa along with milk protein which exhibited minimum (20.18, 20.65%) disease incidence followed by five sprays with B. diffusa along with milk protein + five sprays with Clerodendrum aculeatum along with milk protein (23.67, 24.23%) and ten sprays with C aculeatum along with milk protein (28.13, 29.12%) during 2004 – 05 and 2005 – 06, respectively. Maximum plant height, number of fruits, yield per plants and minimum yield losses were observed in plants treated with ten sprays of B. diffusa along with milk protein followed by five sprays with B. diffusa along with milk protein + five sprays with C. aculeatum along with milk protein and ten sprays with C. aculeatum along with milk protein in all the varieties during both years.
