Abstract

An experiment was carried out to evaluate the reaction of some rice cultivars/accessions against rice tungo virus (RTV) and the vector Nephotettrix virescence. Sixteen varieties and 10 accessions were tested. The screening was done by force feeding in individual vector inoculation technique. Saket-4 showed resistant reaction under artificial inoculation. In vector resistance test, Accessions 99016 produced mild disease symptoms indicating less preferred by vector. IUn evaluating the possible role of silica cells of leaf tissues in the vector resistance, it was observed that the silica cell content in the leaf tissues of test varieties/accessions differed significantly and they might play a role in vector resistance in Accession 99016.
