Abstract

Tomato is an important vegetable crop, grown in a wide range of climatic conditions. India stands fifth in global production of tomato. Low productivity of tomato is due to losses caused by various biotic factors including viral diseases. Among viral disease, tomato mosaic and tomato leaf curl are major disease which cause considerable losses in yield and quality of fruits. Therefore, keeping in view the efforts were made for the ecofriendly management of these viral diseases through botanicals under field conditions. The experiments were conducted in R.B.D. with twenty treatments and three replications during 2007–08. Results indicated that the seed treatment in combination with four foliar sprays of Boerhaavia diffusa root extract in nursery was found most effective. Maximum increase in plant height (74.80cm), number of fruits per plant (30.01), fruit size (22.60cm2) and fruit yield (340.09qha−1) and minimum incidence (53.48%) of viral diseases was recorded in plots having seed treatment + four foliar sprays with B. diffusa root extract.
