Abstract

A study was conducted to assess the vaccinal antibody response to foot and mouth disease vaccine in regularly vaccinated cattle in comparison to those maintained under village level. Sera samples were collected at regular interval and the antibody titre was assayed by performing competition ELISA and micro virus neutralisation test. The results indicated that repeated vaccinations were required to attain a presumptive protective immunity in regularly vaccinated herd, whereas the antibody titre in the village cattle did not reach the protective level. However, the study indicated that by regular repeated vaccinations FMD could be prevented in the face of an outbreak.
