Abstract

The efficacy of faecal culture, faecal PCR and serological methods were compared for the diagnosis of paratuberculosis infection in bovines. The serological methods (absorbed ELISA and AGID) were found to be more sensitive and specific in detection of antibodies to Mycobacterium avium subsp. paratuberculosis. Absorbed ELISA and AGID showed 100% and 85% sensitivity, and 90% and 97% specificity, respectively, whereas faecal PCR showed lowest sensitivity (56%) but highest specificity (100%).
