Seven adult Pigmy hogs (Sus salvanius) out of 44 Pigmy hogs maintained at Research and Breeding Centre, Guwahati died within 10 days. Necropsy showed haemorrhagic and fibro-necrotic gastritis and enteritis, haemorrhagic pneumonia with necrotic foci in the lungs, haemorrhagic lesions in the liver and heart, congestion of kidneys and brain and deposition of fibrinous flakes over the enlarged spleen. Bronchial and mesenteric lymph nodes were enlarged. Cultural examination of liver, intestinal contents and heart blood revealed Salmonella enteritidis.
