Abstract

Gross, histo-pathological and ultra structural changes in the liver of broiler chicken induced by feeding graded levels of aflatoxin at the rate of 0, 20,40,60,80 and 100 ppb in the feed from day one to 45th day were studied. Intensity of the lesions like vascular changes, bileduct hyperplasia, portal fibrosis and mononuclear infiltrations were directly related to the level of toxin in the feed and duration of exposure, with most severe changes at 80 and 100 ppb on the 45th day of experiment. Residual toxin in the liver was estimated and found to be below the standard set by FDA and FAO.
