Abstract

The incidence of spontaneously occurring pathological lesions in adrenals limited to control Wistar rats aged about 18–20 weeks covering 29 subchronic oral toxicity studies has been reported. A total of 596 rats (male-298 and female-298) contributed the morbid materials. Adrenals from all the animals were routinely examined grossly and microscopically for evaluation of potential pathological lesions. The histopathological lesions recorded in adrenals were accessory cortical tissue (5.87%), congestion/angiectasis (3.36%), cortical vacuolation (1.68%), cortical hyperplasia (1.51%) and inflammatory reaction (0.84%).
