Porcine circovirus 2 (PCV2) has been associated with a number of disease syndromes in pigs. Postweaning multisystemic wasting syndrome (PMWS), first identified in Western Canada, is now a global pig disease. PCV2 has also been associated with porcine dermatitis and nephropathy syndrome (PDNS), with proliferating and necrotizing pneumonia (PNP), and reproductive disorders in pigs. Some recent reports from the USA have identified PCV2 as an important agent in porcine respiratory disease complex (PRDC). PCV2 associated diseases (PCVAD) are worldwide in distribution, Recently the presence of this virus among Indian pig population and its association with reproductive problems and PMWS has been established. This review summarizes the current knowledge on the pathogenesis, pathology, diagnosis and control methods for PCVAD.
