Piglets were injected intradermally with ferrous sulphate and the skin sites were collected at 1,3,6,12,24 and 48 hours for histopathological evaluation of the changes in response to free iron. The experiment was repeated by altering the concentration gradient of ferrous sulphate by previous intravenous treatment with the ferrous sulphate and also with pretreatment of skin sites by EDTA (calcium chelator) and Amlodipine (calcium blocker). Histological assessment revealed that the inflammatory responses were reduced by altering the concentration gradient of iron salt and blocking calcium.
