Abstract

This report documents a rare case of scirrhous carcinoma of the rat mammary gland which was metastasised to the lungs. The tumour was confirmed by routine histopathology and immunohistochemistry for proliferating cell nuclear antigen and cytokeratin. Histochemical staining like Masson's trichrome and Picro-Sirius red substantiated the desmoplastic reaction rich in collagen and the vimentin- immunohistochemistry demonstrated the fibroblast cells in the tumour. Differential autofluorescence was observed using spectral analysismode of a laser scanning confocal microscope.
