Abstract

A two year and three months old turkey layer was necropsied which revealed creamy-white nodular lesions in the ovary, serosa and mucosa of the oviduct and serosa of the duodenum. The oviduct was ruptured and three eggs were present in the abdominal cavity. The other lesions included hepatosis, pulmonary congestion and peritonitis. On histopathological examination the growth consisted of cuboidal neoplastic cells with basal round nuclei and prominent nucleoli arranged in a tubulo-acinar pattern. Eosinophilic pink staining material could be observed in the acinar lumen. At places, sheets of proliferating cells were seperated by strands of connective-tissue. The sections with neoplastic cells were subjected to special staining with Periodic acid Schiffs (PAS) reaction. The eosinophilic material in the acini showed a positive reaction to PAS. Metastatic foci could be observed only in the oviduct and duodenum.
