Abstract

The study was conducted in government recognized and unorganised slaughter houses of sheep and goats in Jammu region from the month of July 2011 to June 2012. In the present study, 400 liver samples of sheep and goats were collected from these abattoirs for pathomorphological studies. 130 animals were severly infected with parasitic liver diseases. The prominent gross lesions in cystic hydatidosis and hepatitis cysticercosa included hard parenchyma with congestion and presence of fibrous tissue. Hepatomegaly, icterus, fibrosis of bile duct were observed in fasciolosis and dicrocoeliosis infected animals. Histopathological examination of cystic hydatidosis revealed protoscolosis attached with the liver parenchyma causing excessive fibrosis and marked cellular reaction characterised by proliferation of fibroblasts, diffuse infilteration of mononuclear cells with degeneration of hepatocyte. Presence of bile duct proliferation with fibrosis and MNC's infiltration were observed in fasciolosis and dicrocoeliosis infected liver.
