Abstract

A case of lung abscess in a Wistar rat is described here. The organism isolated from the affected lungs was identified on biochemical tests as Proteus mirabilis. Histopathological examination of organs demonstrated suppurative bronchopneumonia and nephritis. Proteus sp. in general is primarily associated with urinary tract infection and their involvement in lung infections are very rare. This reported case appears to be a rare condition warrant mention as there are no reports of P. mirabilis causing lung abscesses.
