Abstract

The present experiment was undertaken to study the antihyperglycemic effects of herbal preparation containing extracts of Trigonella foenum- graecum (Methi), Curcuma longa (Turmeric), Gymnema sylvestre (Gurmul) and Albizzia lebbeck benth (Shirish) on Streptozotocin (STZ) induced diabetes mellitus in Sprague Dawley rats (Rattus norvegicus). The study revealed that the herbal preparation was able to combat the hyperglycemic effects of STZ induced diabetes to a considerable amount (16.19%) on a long term basis but its effectiveness was less as compared to standard treatment with glibenclamide (31.75%).
