Studies on haemato-biochemical profiles of lions

The present investigation was carried out to study haemato-biochemical parameters of apparently healthy captive lions to develop base line data of this species in the present area of work. This was done in order to check the health status of captive lions. The haematological parameters viz; total erythrocytes count, total leukocytes count, haemoglobin, packed cell volume, neutrophils, lymphocytes, eosinophils and monocytes percentage and biochemical parameters viz; aspartate amino transferase (AST), alanine amino transferase (ALT), alkaline phosphatase (ALP), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), creatinine phosphokinase (CPK), total serum protein, serum albumin, serum globulin, serum A/G ratio, blood glucose, blood cholesterol, blood urea nitrogen (BUN) and creatinine value of lions of Nandan Van Zoo, Raipur were within the normal range, indicating good health status of animals in captivity.
