Outbreak of Classical swine fever (CSF) in wild pigs of Mizoram, a far North Eastern state of India was confirmed by post mortem examination, histopathology and RT-PCR on tissue samples targeting the E2 glycoprotein and NS5B gene fragments of CSFV. Necropsy examination revealed typical button ulcers in large intestine and infarction on spleen with hemorrhagic pneumonia in lungs. Two isolates of CSFV from outbreaks were subjected to nucleotide sequencing of E2 and NS5B gene fragments for genetic typing. Phylogenetic analysis on 190 nucleotides region of E2 gene and 409 nucleotide region of NS5B gene revealed that both the isolates belonged to the group 2 and subgroup 2.1.
