Abstract

A carcass of four month old male Large White Yorkshire grower pig which had the history of severe diarrhea and died suddenly was presented. On necropsy, tags of fibrin threads with adhesion of intestine and other visceral organs was noticed in the abdominal cavity. Microbiological examination revealed short Grams negative rods with metallic sheen colonies in Eosin Methylene Blue agar suggestive of growth of Escherichia coli. Histopathological examination revealed acute myocarditis, acute fibrinous peritonitis, acute perihepatitis and subacute colitis. Based on the history, gross and histopathological examination and cultural characterization of microbe, it was diagnosed as a case of fibrinous peritonitis caused by Escherichia coli.
